I’ve been following John’s flies over the past few years and have been loving the patterns he has developed. This is one of my favorite ones. If you would like a sampling of these tied by John, you can alays head over to MyFlies.com for a few. The main thing about the fly is the tubing with the wire threaded through it. That material combination makes an incredible looking body.
I love Roy Christie’s patterns and was lucky enough to get a nice little pile of them some years ago. If you are not familiar with Roy’s flies, here is a great tutorial that guides you through the tying process. The flies are tied reverse so that the tail extends over the eye and the wing / parachute is positioned over the hook point.
This is a great video from IronAltar. It’s a nice large western style Golden Stonefly dry fly with a bullet head and some rubber legs. The body and head are going to make this fly sink proof and give you the ability to tie on a heady dropper nymph. The video is well done, and I would love to see some more videos from this tyer. (Sorry, I don’t know your name). Happy tying.
