The Fish Taco is a simple fly to tie and provides a ton of action in the current. The fly is unweighted and can be fished at depth by using split-shot or weighted heads. The fly has a ton of action with the long ostrich tendrils and offers a glint of flash with just a little Flashabou. There is also a version of the Fish Taco called the Flash taco tied with Flashabou rather than ostrich if you need a flashier fly.
The Fish Taco was designed by Jeff Hickman (Mr. Hankey) to have a ton of action and to be light.

i tie a ton of marabou steelhead flies, and I’ve recently started tying Hoh Bo’s in a few colors to match my Alaskabou colors. The Hoh Bo has a wound hackle under the marabou, and so gives it a bit more of a fuller shape in the current. I tie mine in Showgirl (pink and purple), Chum Candy (pink and blue), Nitro (black and chartreuse), Popsicle and a host of other colors. Use what ever colors you want on the fly and have fun with it.
Caddis Fly Shop is now putting together a series of steelhead flies and this is one of the first in the series and I’m looking forward to seeing more of it. The fly is pretty standard, but Jay does create a custom dubbing blend for the body of this fly using STS and a touch of Ice dub. Purple STS, Black STS, steely Blue STS and silver ice dub is what I think he used here. The STS is a nice budding, but I find it a bit bright for most applications and I like to blend it with natural hairs like fox tail under fur, seal or polar bear under fur. I’m always in favor of using Coq de Leon feathers, the speckling of the feathers add a natural look to the fly.
