It’s been quite a while since I featured any auctions, but I just seen a few really wonderful flies posted on doubleleopard, Paul Schmookler’s account. Lots of Warren Duncan Rusty Rat’s are posted. I think Paul must have a case of them socked away. There are 4 Rusty Rat’s posted, each tied with a different type of hair in the wing; grey fox, badger, mongoose and skunk.
Warren Duncan Rusty Rat
Jerry Doak – Chief Needabah
Kieth Fulsher – Silver Darter
Lew Oatman – Dr. Oatman
He has been timed tying the Rusty Rat in 1 minute 13 seconds flat. I’ve also heard about this video for years and have never seen it until now. Warren Duncan tying a Rusty Rat while reciting Robert Service’s poem “The Cremation of Sam McGhee”. Rest well dear friend, RIP Dunc. Thanks Jamie for the link.
This is a classic pattern for Atlantic salmon. I was commissioned to tie up a couple dozen over the weekend along with some Green Machines, Blue Charms and Undertakers. All classic fodder to chuck at New Brunswick salmon. Doubles are nice to use as I find they ride with better balance in the water compared to a single. Just be sure to check with regulations to be sure they are permitted before you fill a box.
