Hoh Bo Spey by Jason Osborn

i tie a ton of marabou steelhead flies, and I’ve recently started tying Hoh Bo’s in a few colors to match my Alaskabou colors. The Hoh Bo has a wound hackle under the marabou, and so gives it a bit more of a fuller shape in the current. I tie mine in Showgirl (pink and purple), Chum Candy (pink and blue), Nitro (black and chartreuse), Popsicle and a host of other colors. Use what ever colors you want on the fly and have fun with it.

Shank: Partridge Waddington shank or Fish Skull Senyo’s Articulated Shank
Thread: 6/0 Uni
Connection: 30lb fire wire or Senyo’s Standard Intruder Wire
Weight: Spirit river soft tungsten
Butt: UV Ice Dubb
Body: STS trilobal or dubbing of choice
Hackle: Jumbo guinea fowl
Collar: Marabou blood quill (2 colors)
Horns: Lady Amherst center tail slips
Flash: Flashabou
Hook: Octopus hook #2 or #4

Black and Blue Intruder

By now, you have a good idea how to tie this up. Just check back in the archives for several great examples. this is just pure flash, and fly sexy. This gives you an idea just how important it is to build the foundation of the fly so that the materials do not collapse once they hit water. Nice touch with the big jungle cock nails on the back section, they make a nice rudder.

Enjoy.
