2 for the price of 1. Davie ties up 2 flies on this video, a Pheasant Tail Nymph(PTN) and a nice little scud pattern called the Hoglouse. This version of the PTN isn’t my favorite, but it’s a respectable tie. I like to finish mine off with a few legs underneath and tied at the head. Great flies, thanks for the bonus Davie.
As promised, Riseform has published more content for us fly tyers to consume. The second pattern is J.C.’s Black Bead Stonefly by John Collins. Finally a worthy use for all those dollar store beads I bought so long ago. Here we are with a nice little winter stonefly pattern. I’ve often seen these in the early spring hatching on the western streams.
Hook: Dai-Riki 285 curved nymph sizes 18 – 20
Thread: 8/0 Black
Abdomen: 5 Black size #15 round glass beads
Tail: 2 Dark Moose Body Hairs
Wing Pads: Black Domestic Turkey Feather
Thorax: Black Rabbit Dubbing
Legs: Black Ring Neck Pheasant Head Feather
Here is another offering tied up by Davie McPhail. Here we have a classic Frank Sawyer Killer Bug. This pattern uses the now hard to find Chadwicks 477 wool. If you find a spool of it, you might be able to get a premium for it on eBay. I’ve seen a card of this discontinued color go for as much as 40.00US and I’ll bet the price will only increase with time.
