We featured many golden stones on the blog before, and even a few of carl’s( see video here). Here is another I must add to the fly box for this year. I’m planning not only to hit some of the creek with this, but to also present this fly to some pet trout on the Ganaraska river in Ontario. Wish me luck.
This is a great video from IronAltar. It’s a nice large western style Golden Stonefly dry fly with a bullet head and some rubber legs. The body and head are going to make this fly sink proof and give you the ability to tie on a heady dropper nymph. The video is well done, and I would love to see some more videos from this tyer. (Sorry, I don’t know your name). Happy tying.
this is a killer looking little stonefly nymph that I know will work perfectly on my favorite little stream. The legs on this are killer looking, and although Hans uses golden pheasant, you could easily use ringneck in it’s place. It’s a fairly realistic pattern once you add the legs, and I can’t see how a hungry trout could pass up that little morsel. I love the fact that it’s tied on a short scud hooks. I find these are great for hook ratios and favor them over the longer shanked curved hooks. Happy tying.
