A nice video for the beginner for tying a nice little soft hackle fly to fish in the film or subsurface. Video from intheriffle.com
Hook: Standard nymph
Rib: Copper wire
Body: Pheasant tail
Thorax: Peacock herl
A great video with a demonstration of a spinning block to pre-twist flymph bodies. NLFT get in some great guest tyers every year, and I’m sorry I missed this presentation. If you like this style of fly, you might want to check out the Flymph Forum as well for a nice little cache of patterns and information.

There just isn’t enough of the soft hackles being thrown these days. Albemarle Angler does a great job with the Detonator SH, showing how to tie it up. I love throwing these on the little creeks near my house, and seeing it just makes the winter seem a lot longer. At least I have the flies to keep me company.
