We featured the artwork of Joel DeJong and his fly art blog “A Year on the Fly” a few months back. I thought this would be a great time to check back to see how things are going. there is some really great art being produced for the blog and I wanted to share the 3 that caught my eye! Enjoy.
I just found another artist specializing in flies. I love these people who can make the flies I tie look so great on paper, canvas or any other medium. The artist is Peter Strid and you can find his growing collection of flies posted on his blog at http://stridart.blogspot.com/p/about.html. Keep up the great work, and hopefully we can feature some more of this great artwork in the future.
A few of Carrie Stevens bucktails are now up for auction on EBay. Check below for the link. The flies up for grabs are bucktail patterns tied by Carrie. I do on occasion see some of her feather wing streamers become available, but this is the first time I’ve seen her lesser know bucktails.
Quote from auction:
The flies are part of a collection of vintage Fly Fishing rods and reels, prints, books and flies which were removed from the Johns Pond, Maine cottage of the noted RANGELEY LAKES area author, conservationist and fly fishing pioneer, MARGARET BLISS OWEN (1898-1991). The offering includes 2 original Stevens patterns : F.R.S. Special, and F.R.S. Fancy (please reference page 133 of the definitive book on Carrie Stevens by Graydon R. and Leslie K. Hilyard) and an unnamed bucktail streamer which is likely another of her original patterns.
The bidding is currently at 152.00 US and her feather wings typically sell in the $300 – $400 range, so a lucky collector may be getting a pretty good bargain with this trio. I’ll post the final number once the auction ends. Happy bidding.
