Just a quick shout to let everyone know about Damian Lee Welsh’s new book. There is an excellent preview available, and it also includes a great looking reference section of Atlantic Salmon flies.
Atlantic Salmon Flies of Nova Scotia is a book inspired by a poster of 30 Atlantic Salmon flies that were created in or have significance to the province. The book also features the stories of the tyers who tied them and a back section displays over 35 of their favorite or original patterns. With over 200 full color photographs, and several full page photo spreads, it’s a sight to behold and deserves a special spot on your bookshelf.
I picked up some of these hooks not too long ago and love tying flies on them. they are old, and hard to come by, but just prefect for the long streamers. 9 boxes of Allcock 1810 size 12 hooks! What a find, I’m not sure about the value, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see it go above 200.
Here is a bit of a plug for my new project set to launch on the new year. Streamers 365 will feature a range of feather-wing streamers tied some of the most talented streamer tyers. This is just one for fun, and any funds raised from the sale go towards some great causes.
I’m considering a bit on this Bert Quimby streamer as well. The pattern isn’t listed, and the photo is poor, but it looks like it’s red and white, perhaps a Parmachene Belle. the seller guesses it may be a Col. Bates, but it doesn’t look at all like that to me. This would be a great addition to any collection.
Damian lee Welsh – Spirit Fly – One of the series of Spirit flies tied up by Damian a while back. This one was tied on an 8/0 hook and is almost 4 inches. I’m not sure how many Golden Pheasants he had to go through to find that many nice crests. This will be a nice one to have hanging on the wall.
