I haven’t had a chance to see Steve tie before, but I have seen a great number of his flies that incorporate the Polar Pony hair into them. While he mentions that this fly is similar to Clouser styled flies, it’s far from it IMHO, that being neither good or bad. This pattern dubbed The Wing, does remind me of a game fowl wing in some sense. The fy is massive, as Steve is know for large saltwater flies, and is tied using an interesting method. I really enjoyed watching this one, and I hope you do as well.
Just got word the artist Peter Strid has done a new piece featuring one of my favorite streamers; Lew Oatman’s Brook Trout. He even added the orange bucktail which most people omit because it was missing in Dr. Bates book. (The plate does show the bucktail, and originals all include it) The tinsel is magic, I may have to buy this one for my collection. My hat is off to you Mr. Strid. Well done.
This is a great saltwater pattern tied up with the EP fibers. The production is great, but that music is driving me nuts! The tying steps are a bit repetitive, but the real magic begins during the shaping of the fly. The first red wing looks awesome inside the white, I wish they would have dunked that minnow to see how it looked in the water. The shape of the fly is magic, a prefect tear drop. These guys are well worth subscribing to on Youtube – http://www.youtube.com/user/0031Flyfishing I’m sure we’ll be featuring more videos from 0031Flyfishing soon.
