Shawn Davis – Rumpelstiltskin Art Fly

If you have ever seen any of Shawn Davis’ work, you’ll know how extreme his jewelery quality flies are. The minute details he adds like the micro S & D on the heads of flies, artistic designs and imaginative displays are matched by none. You can view a selection of his work in the gallery here. His newest creation, Rumpelstiltskin is truly something to behold. You can read the entire story of the fly complete with gallery and his artistic vision on Shawn’s site, or view the process on http://theanthropologist.net on the wonderful slide presentation.

When I first envisioned this fly, I was focused on the transition from straw to gold. I saw dozens of strands of straw magically transitioning into strands of gold. Then I began seeing the materials twisting and weaving together. The vision began to take shape: I would disguise a hook in such a deceptive swirling web of gold and straw that fish or human would have to exercise extreme prudence to avoid being lured in by its beauty to its dangerous point.

Bud Guidry Freestyle

I’ve been admiring Bud Guidry’s flies since I first saw them. His flies are perfection in silk and feather, and his freestyle flies are just amazing. I would hesitate to call him the best classic dresser of this generation, but in my opinion from what I have seen, his creations are among the very best. Just take a look at this limited selection of his flies in the video below. You can see more of his flies hosted on FeathersMC.com.
