Gift Ideas for Fly Tyers 2017

It’s about this time every year that I start fielding questions about what I want for gifts. I’m always at a loss to give suggestions, and I’m fully stocked up with pheasant tail and marabou. I’ve put together a list of a few items I think as fly tyers, you may appreciate and also like to add to your own list. this isn’t sponsored in any way, just a list I’ve put together on my own. I’m also going to ask if you have any other suggestions for gift ideas geared toward the fly tyer. Add them in the comments below and I might add them to a future video. I’ve posted the links to the products below the video.

12 Drum Fly Dressings

This was one of the hardest days to find fitting flies, why didn’t they just stick to birds the whole way through? lol Luckily I tracked down this incredible collection of Drum Fly Recipes created by Sandy Irvine–Lord Alexander Irvine, Laird of Drum Castle and Drum Estate in the 1930’s. Thanks to Ronn Lucas for resurrecting the Salmon Flyer and the bakers dozen Drum fly recipes.

On the twelfth day of Christmas my Ghillie tied for me
12 Drum Fly dressings
11 Zonkers zonking
10 Frogs a leaping
9 Golden Girls
8 Royal Wulff’s
7 Baron’s Swinging
6 Evil Weevils
5 Gold Ribbed Hare’s Ear Nymphs
4 Baby Buggers
3 PEI Flies,
2 Blae and Black
And a soft hackle Partridge and Orange

Click here for all the Drum Fly dressings

Hmmmm….. I’ve got nothing for the pipers piping, so let really stretch this one and go with a Zonker pattern because of the use of the Piping in the body… Ya, can you feel the stretch?

11 Zonkers zonking
10 Frogs a leaping
9 Golden Girls
8 Royal Wulff’s
7 Baron’s Swinging
6 Evil Weevils
5 Gold Ribbed Hare’s Ear Nymphs
