The Calcasieu Pig Boat (Show Boat Version) is a fly designed by the late Cajun fly designer Tom Nixon. Nixon was known for his bass flies and for his books on the subject. (http://amzn.to/2yE4rr4 Fly Tying and Fly Fishing for Bass and Panfish)
The Calcasieu Pig Boat gets its name by combining the name of Tom’s home waters in Louisiana with the moniker given to the German submarines during WWII. Like the subs, the Pig Boat has proven to be a deadly and stealthy adversary to the warm water targets.
The fly was designed to act like the popular Hawaiian Wiggler lure which was doing quite well with bass anglers.
The original fly was tied without the tail section and in all black. Tom was not a purist and was know to add a pork rind on the hook.
Other versions include the Showboat (rubber legs tail), Serpent (saddle hackle), rabbit and marabou.
There is an excellent article in the Autumn 2004 Fly Tyer magazine which dives a little deeper into the history of the fly.

The Copper Bunny streamer looks like a promising pattern for fishing trout rivers and pike lakes. This meaty streamer will ride hook up and the weighted eyes and body will help the fly descend to the feeding depths in short order. The pattern should be easy enough to switch up the colors to create a range of lures for different situations. White, olives, all black, and combinations should cover the bases.

The Fly Fiend is back with a great streamer fly. While he is best known for some of the killer nymph patterns he whips up at the vise, he is equally adept at tying larger baitfish streamer patterns. This minnow was designed to go after bass, but any toothy critter is bound to give chase. I haven’t given the Fish Mask product a try yet, but I do like the way it finishes this fly pattern. It gives the fly a nice clean head without needing the UV resin, curing light and positions the eyes evenly, something that can be a little bit challenging.
