Over the years, I’ve been growing my library of fly tying books from the usual sources, book stores, ebay and amazon, but there is a small niche of book popping up over the past couple years using print-on-demand technology. There is a tradition of self publishing books with-in the fly tying membership. Mostly this comes from some niche aspects of fly tying, and the ability to make small affordable printings. because it is usually the fly tyer who has to front to money for their book, many of these are small runs and hard to find. That’s where services like Blurb come in. Blurb allows an author to create a book and to print it as needed. The quality of the finished books is quite similar to what you will find in book stores, provided the author took the time to edit the book carefully. I’m looking forward to seeing more book emerge through the service, and here are five I’ve already added to my library.
