Phatagorva Salmon Fly – Davie McPhail

Davie really shines when tying BAF tubes. I personally love to tie this type of Scandinavian hairwing or Templedog style as it is sometimes called. One thing to note about the pattern is that this is Davie’s variation, changed slightly from the Mikael Frodin’s (see below). This pattern creates a very prey-like signature in the water, and the hair moves imparts a ton of motion. Tie it for steelhead, salmon and pike.

Tube: 1.5 – 7 cm
Tag: Oval gold
Butt: Orange antron
Tail: Orange fluorofibre
Body: Gold Lagartun Flatbraid and black dubbing (half each)
Rib: Gold mini flatbraid
Body hackle: Orange badger hackle
Front hackle: Black heron or substitute
Wing: bottom – up – Rainbow flashabou (mixed colors), Fiery brown hair (layer 1), Crayfish orange angelhair, Fierybrown hair (layer 2), Rusty olive angelhair, Fiery Brown hair( layer 3), orange peacock herls over.
Sides: Jungle cock
Head: Copper/Black cone head.
